Bulbophyllum grandiflorum is one of the most dramatic, large‑flowered Bulbophyllum species from New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Its huge, curved, mottled blooms and broad paddle‑shaped leaves make it instantly recognisable and highly collectible. green‑yellow to brown mottled flowers and the large single leaves that top each pseudobulb.
Lateral petals and sepals often spotted or streaked.
The flower has a fleshy, almost animalistic look typical of section Hyalosema.
Single flowers per inflorescence, but a mature plant produces many spikes. Typically, summer to autumn, though in the tropics it may bloom opportunistically.
Epiphytic species with widely spaced pseudobulbs on a creeping rhizome.
Each pseudobulb carries a single, large, paddle‑shaped leaf up to 15–20 cm long.

Inflorescences emerge from the base of the pseudobulb or along the rhizome. Native to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Found in warm, humid lowland forests up to 1500m elevation.
Grows as an epiphyte on mossy branches with constant moisture and airflow.
