$290.00
Paphiopedilum haynaldianum is one of the most elegant and charismatic multifloral species in the genus—lighter, more graceful, and more “dancing” in appearance than the heavier rothschildianum group, yet still dramatic enough to stand out in any collection. This is a species plays an important role in breeding long‑petalled hybrids like Michael Koopowitz.
Paphiopedilum haynaldianum
Section: Coryopedilum
Native to Philippines (Luzon, Mindoro, Samar, Leyte)
Habitat: Warm, humid, bright forests; often on limestone cliffs or rocky slopes with excellent drainage.
Inflorescence: 3–6 flowers per spike, occasionally more on strong plants.
Flower size: Medium-large; petals often 15–25 cm long.
Dorsal sepal: White to cream with bold maroon striping; typically, broader and more rounded than philippinense.
Petals: Long, gracefully drooping or slightly twisting; greenish to yellowish base with maroon spotting or barring.
Pouch: Tan to chestnut, often glossy.
Overall look: Elegant, airy, and lightly twisted—less rigid than rothschildianum, more refined than philippinense.
Clonal variation is significant: some forms have very long petals, others have wider dorsals, and some showheavier spotting.
This species is generally easier and faster than rothschildianum and more forgiving of heat than many multiflorals.
