Dendrobium (Setigerum x convulatum)x(macrophyllum x shirashii)
Is a hybrid in a Section of Latouria orchids. They are a fascinating group of about 50 orchid species, highly valued by hobbyists and breeders for their unique appearance and relatively easy care.
Key Characteristics
They are Papua New Guinea, which is home to about 90% of the species. They can also be found in other parts of Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific Islands, from the Philippines to Samoa.
Most are epiphytes, meaning they grow on other plants, usually trees, in rainforests, but some can be found growing on rocks or on the ground.
Flower: They are known for their long-lasting flowers, with some species’ blooms lasting for several months. They often flower in the winter and spring.
They thrive in bright, filtered light. An east-facing or south-facing window with a sheer curtain is a good location. Avoid direct, intense afternoon sun, which can burn the leaves.
Water them regularly throughout the year but allow the potting mix to dry out slightly between waterings. They do not like to be waterlogged.
